Research activity
The Research Unity at the University of Bari has the role to develop innovative methods and materials for the conservation and restoration of artefacts, and to develop new analytical strategies based on micro-destructive analytical techniques.

1) synthesis of nanostructured innovative materials for the restoration of stone substrates, such as innovative materials based on nanoparticles with biocide action (nanocolloids of Cu, Ag and ZnO with biocide activity), smart and multifunctional materials (CNTs) for improving cementitious matrices.

2) study of enzyme kinetics for the removal of spray acrylic paints through the use of lipase enzymes and of specific enzymes for synthetic dyes.

3) study of the interactions between ionic and molecular species in determining the stability of pictorial systems through the use of techniques such as MALDI-ToF, ESI-Q-ToF and ESI-IT coupled with HPLC.

4) study of natural dyes in paintings by chromatographic techniques / mass spectrometry.
